The best advice? I heard an elder in our congregation say in a public talk, "You must test daily to make sure you are in the truth, because if you aren't, you are wasting your time." Wow!! When I tested, I found out I wasn't, and that's when I left!! About 5 years later, I heard that he was no longer an elder, or in "the truth" either! He must have taken his own advice!

Elder's advice we remember
by Newborn ini remember ones when i was quite tired and low one elder said to me " it says in the bible that the one who endures to the end will survive, so really the only thing you/we have to do is to endure".. wow, gee, really!!
hey well that's a relief and encouraging....thanks.... i think that all that enduring was what made me tired and depressed in the first place..... what do you have to relate?.

I have been out for a bunch of years, and I don't care who knows me or what congregation I was in, that being said, I was in Glide. Beautiful country, but a horrible little congregation. It actually branched off from the one in Roseburg. We met in the PO's basement for a year or more. Then got everything together and did a quick build on the Umpqua Hwy. I pioneered for several years there, until I found out the truth about the truth.
I began a fade, which was made really easy because my husband transfered over to Klamath Falls, then we moved again soon after, back to Nevada. Which is where I still am today.

Hi Mrs Peck. I spent many years in a congregation in So Oregon. In a small town even that starts with a "G", loved the town, but it was a miserable little congregation! Did most assemblies in Roseburg, with the occasional Woodburn. DA's in Corvalis, hated when they made us go to Tacoma. Was my area any where close to your's?

The Holiday Thread
by SweetBabyCheezits in[i'm sure this thread comes up several times a year by us noobs but it's new for me.
btw, i'm not advocating or opposing the celebration of holidays, just giving a perspective we've taken recently.].
okay, so before we got df'd a few weeks back, we weren't sure if we were going to start celebrating holidays... for a few reasons:.

I have been out for about 17 years now. It took about 2 years before we did any kind of holiday celebrating. Then we our first Grandson was born, we had to do Christmas for him!! (even though he was a baby) :) We put the tree in the den -where we could close the door and hide it I suppose. But now we go all out! The day after Thanksgiving we start decorating.
This year will be very special for us. We had two Grandkids that we 'knew of', but didn't 'know'. I won't go into details, but back in May, we were contacted by another state and asked if we were interested in taking custody of them. We jumped through hoops, and made the trip to pick them up in June. They have been here since! Lots of adjustments to be made by all, but its going great so far! This will be our first Christmas together, and the first to have all our Grandkids here at once! I can't wait for every one to meet!

I remember a meeting where a MS was taking his misbehaving 4 year old girl towards the door to go outside, when she screamed, "No, don't beat my ass Daddy!!" Every one had their head down and was a snickering!

I like being shunned - how about you?
by THE GLADIATOR init was painful at first but now i see the advantages of not having needy relatives spending the weekend with me and scoffing my food and raiding my bar.
my wife is happier too.
it's like having a heavy rucksack removed.. i have 39 jw relatives and 38 of them shun me along with the army of ex-friends who remain in the tower.

When I left, a quick fade out, I took my own family with me. The other few were already out, leaving only an Aunt and Uncle. I moved out of state, so never had to worry about any shunning. Just a few months ago at my Mothers funeral, I knew I would see my Uncle for the first time. When he came in, he came right to me. Gave me a hug, and asked what he could do to help. The week was filled with making arrangements, sharing meals, and memories. He never put me on the spot, or asked me anything about what I was doing as far as the JW's go...
My Uncle never told me-- and I never asked, but I heard from many CO's through the years-- that my Uncle was 'of the annointed' and had an exceptional Bible knowledge. His 'knowledge' didn't keep him from being there for us all, when Mom died.
Of course, the real test would be if I were to show up on his doorstep for a visit!

I've Completely Abandoned My Principles~~For Gals
by StAnn inwhen i was a girl growing up, my mother always said that makeup was for old women and prostitutes.
she never wore much makeup.
i played around with makeup for awhile as a teen but once i grew up, it began to bother my conscience.

Did we have the same Mother? LOL Mine used to say the same thing, and in fact she didn't wear make-up until she was an old lady! I usually only wear mascara, and some times a little lipstick, depending on my mood. I am in my fifties, so I guess I now would have to classify myself as an old lady too!
Sounds like you are having fun exploring anyway. Slumber party time!
